Ask President Obama and Congress to protect our migratory birds (and our health) from dangerous exposures to microwave radiation from communication towers before it is too late!

Birds suffer from serious health problems as a result of exposure to microwave radiation from communication towers. According to the Department of Interior - "Study results have documented nest and site abandonment, plumage deterioration, locomotion problems, reduced survivorship, and death". They further state "the electromagnetic radiation standards used by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) continue to be based on thermal heating, a criterion now nearly 30 years out of date and inapplicable today." (

Human health studies have documented a host of health problems related to exposure to microwave radiation from communication towers. Human health problems resulting from exposure to microwave radiation from wireless technology can include: poor sleep quality, insomnia, headaches, skin rash, facial flushing, cardiac arrhythmia, seizures, neurological disorders, memory and cognitive problems, nausea, vomiting, poor appetite, and Alzheimer's disease to name a few (, Modern studies showing harm from microwave radiation emitting wireless technology build on the strong foundation of thousands and thousands of earlier studies also showing harm.

Department of Interior denied the request of the National Telecommunication and Information Administration (NTIA) for a categorical exclusion for their program, FirstNet, from the regulations protecting migratory birds. In their reply, they stated that NTIA-FirstNet would have negative impacts on migratory birds in two ways - "The first is by injury, crippling loss, and death from collisions with towers and their supporting guy-wire infrastructure, where present." - "The second significant issue associated with communication towers involves impacts from non- ionizing electromagnetic radiation emitted by these structures." (

NTIA-FirstNet would blanket the United States with a network of communication towers spewing microwave radiation on a near continuous basis across the whole country. This would be highly detrimental to migratory birds, bees, bats, butterflies, frogs, and people. Trees can also be damaged by microwave radiation from telecommunication towers. Plant growth experiments performed by Danish 9th grade students and repeated by a second grader in Michigan yielded stunning results and show in a very visual manner that plant growth can be severely impaired by the pulsed modulated microwave radiation from WiFi. All this harm is unnecessary and could cause lasting environmental damage before the plug is pulled if people like you don't stand up and ask for a halt.

NTIA-FirstNet is an unnecessary industry-influenced government program, masquerading as a first responder network. Both first responders and communities deserve a safe communication network emitting the minimum of radiation. FirstNet does not meet this criteria and would endanger migratory birds, the environment, our health, and first responders' health. Genuine concern for first respondersí ability to communicate in emergencies is being used as a cover to support installation of a dangerous communication system and to allow telecom companies to blanket the nation in microwave radiation.

Microwave radiation emitting wireless is the slowest, least reliable, most hackable, energy intensive, and dangerous way to deliver internet service. Fiber optic is the fastest internet service and most of the rest of the developed world has fiber optic internet available at almost all homes and offices (premises). Why are we spending money and sacrificing our environment and health to support installation of this slow, unreliable, hackable, energy hogging, and dangerous system?

Please sign the petition and ask the President and Congress to protect our migratory birds, the environment, and our health by taking these concrete steps:

    • Halt all government funding for NTIA-FirstNet and other wireless broadband infrastructure. Fund a national fiber to the premises initiative without provider-installed wireless at the premises since this would raise area microwave radiation levels and be detrimental for the migratory birds. ( Research safe low RF radiation first responder communications systems.

    • Hold an oversight hearing to find out why FCC is not enforcing even their existing outdated RF radiation limits. The RF limits are, as the Department of Interior stated, "... based on thermal heating, a criterion now nearly 30 years out of date and inapplicable today", but even so the FCC is not enforcing them and many communication towers exceed them. An EMR Policy Institute investigation ( found that many towers are transmitting up to and in excess of 600% over the outdated RF limits. The FCC took no enforcement action after being notified of violations multiple times. EMR Policy Institute research has found only one case where the FCC issued a Notice of Violation. The FCC needs to develop meaningful enforcement protocols (which should NOT include notifying telecom companies of impending compliance tests) and significant fines for violations.

    • Halt all transmitting smart utility meter installations. They raise the microwave radiation levels in the area and harm migratory birds. This article is about the disappearance of birds after too many transmitting smart utility meters were installed (

    • Have the FCC monetarily incentivize the use of landline/cable/fiberoptic telephones over wireless phone service. The more phones using a tower the higher the radiation levels climb and the more towers endanger migratory birds and our health.

    • Authorize and fund the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to develop meaningful population and environmentally based RF radiation limits to protect migratory birds and human health.

    • Require the FCC to adopt and enforce the EPA RF radiation limits.

Please sign our petition, asking President Obama and Congress to protect our migratory birds (and our health) from dangerous exposures to microwave radiation from communication towers before it is too late!
